Contemporary Garden

Naturalistic Planting

Design and build constraints:
  • Zoned entertaining areas
  • Ability to grow fruit and herbs
  • High water table
  • Naturalistic feel to planting
This family garden consisted originally of a block paved patio and a redundant curved path across the lawn which led to the side of the existing office where there were no doors located. The office had been added to the garden at a later date. This was to be addressed as part of the new design for the garden.

A diagonal design was created for the garden and optically this gives the feeling that the space is larger than it actually is. Porcelain paving was used for the main patio, smaller seating area and paths to the office. This was teamed with black basalt setts which were used for the BBQ area. Composite decking was also used to wrap around the front of the garden office to create a lounge area which could be partially shaded from the pergola above.

Planting had an overall naturalistic style and included pollinator plants. Corten planters offered a dedicated area to grow fruit and herbs for cooking.
