We engaged Painted Fern initially to design our back garden from scratch and then to change the planting in our front garden.

Pam listened to our ideas and requirements, developing both a design and a planting plan which are sympathetic to the surroundings, provide year-round interest and have made the garden look so much bigger.

We appreciated Pam's friendly approach, good communication, extensive plant knowledge and attention to detail, particularly when she was monitoring the landscaping project.

Painted Fern took a detailed brief of our requirements and worked collaboratively with us taking so much into account. We disliked that vast amount of hard landscaping and concentrated planting in one single border in our old garden. We wanted low maintenance plants that attracted wildlife (away from seating areas) and provided privacy / screening. Pam's design took into consideration how we would use our garden in future, the unusual shape and soil type and then incorporated this into her design using scent, sight and touch.

With zero experience in gardening, it was helpful to have a mixture of written and visual information e.g. mood board, seasonal planting plan and planting visualisations. I wanted to be involved in some of the planting with Pam. She was so gracious with helping me to understand why and what I was doing, I learned a lot and felt engaged with our garden even under Covid-19 safety measures. We have a detailed maintenance plan and ongoing support from Pam to answer questions if needed.

We cannot thank Pam enough. Our planting scheme is like a theatre show full of surprises.

We were a bit despondent when Painted Fern came to see us - we'd already had two garden designers not really understand what we were trying to achieve when we wanted to add a 'non-messy nature pond' to our garden. Pamela asked really pertinent questions that meant she got it, then explained exactly what we wanted and what would work even better. We are thrilled with the result - it's better than we had hoped for.

Painted Fern has really made our garden work by redesigning our borders and patio area. She moved plants to places where they work, added new ones that make it all balanced and happy and has manged to ensure there is interest all year round. We spent years failing to do this and we killed loads of plants along the way - I wish we'd got her in earlier as I suspect we have actually saved money because her knowledge means that our plants now thrive!
