Who we are
PFGD is an award winning, full insured, high end garden design and planting design service. We are based in Horsell, Woking, Surrey and we work on design projects across Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and West Sussex. We can also work on projects further afield virtually.
About Pamela
The studio is led by Pamela Barden. Pamela studied Garden Design at the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Garden back in 2002 and also has a RHS Level 2 in Horticulture. She set up PFGD in 2015. Prior to her career in garden design, Pamela worked as a graphic designer and studio manager. Having gardened for over 25 years, Pamela is an expert on selecting the right plant for the right place and understands just how important soil organisms and soil health play a vital role in plant health.
Locally, Pamela has been a regular columnist in the past for The Resident Magazine and Village Life Magazine and has volunteered with both Woking High School and Halstead St Andrews School to help bring their school gardens to life.
Pamela has had a key role in planting up 5 show gardens at RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival (Gold, Peoples Choice, Best in Show, Silver, Silver-gilt and Gold) and RHS Chelsea Flower Show trade stand (5 star). She’s also been shortlisted for for the Pro Landscaper small project BIG IMPACT awards in 2021 for planting design and in 2022 for both planting design and special feature category. In 2024, she won Gold and Best Interpretation of Theme awards at BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair for her Beautiful Border design - The Synthesis Border.
What we do
We are a small design studio working on a wide range of residential and commercial projects varying in size from bijou plots to vast estates. We regularly collaborate with other industry experts such as tree surgeons, drainage consultants, outdoor kitchen specialists, lighting experts, architects and structural engineers.
We can work with you on your garden project from designing the initial concepts, creating detailed construction drawings to overseeing the build process with tried and tested landscapers. Then follows our horticultural magic implementing any planting schemes sourcing from trusted nurseries and tree specialists.
Right from the beginning of the process you’ll see we build trust with our designer-client relationships, quality with our attention to detail and will support you beyond the build and planting of your garden as it continues to evolve.
