NEW BUILD BORDERS
A garden from scratch

Design and build constraints:
Low maintenance
Seasonally wet soil
New build compacted soil
In this newly built garden, the blank canvas provided an exciting opportunity to create vibrant yet harmonious borders that would bring instant character and softness to the space. The planting design focused on a calming palette of soft mauves and gentle yellows, carefully chosen to complement the clean lines and fresh finishes of the new build. Layers of texture and seasonal interest were introduced through a mix of perennials and ornamental grasses, creating borders that feel full and inviting from the moment you step outside.
Hydrangeas played a key role in anchoring the planting, adding structure and a sense of maturity while echoing the garden’s gentle, romantic mood. Their lush blooms contrast beautifully with the airy movement of surrounding plants like salvia, helenium and geranium, providing both colour and form throughout the summer. This border design not only softens the edges of the new home but also creates an evolving space that will flourish and deepen in character as the garden matures.
