Front Garden

Long Season Planting

Design and build constraints:
  • Large front garden
  • Lonjevity of interest to planting throughout year
  • Easy to care for plants
Having recently downsized from a large garden to a much smaller plot Painted Fern Garden Design was enlisted with the task of designing the planting for both the front and rear gardens at this bungalow. The size of the plot dictated that the front garden was considerably larger than the rear garden with a large border to the front of the plot neighbouring the road. Smaller borders edged the side boundaries and against the front of the house. The decision was made to remove an existing holly tree and replace with an Acer palmatum dissectum.

Planting was a mixture of shrubs, perennials and bulbs and included Peony 'Buckeye Belle' with it's sumptiously dark red flowers, Thalictrum 'Black Stockings' with it's near-black stems, Salvia 'Amistad' and Echinacea purpurea. Alliums and Nectoscordum were dotted through the planting.
